Seven frontier AI models shipped in three weeks of September, and none of them wins at everything. GPT-6 Astra and Claude Fable 5.1 share the top score on the independent index, Astra is the best at operating a computer, Muse Spark 1.3 posts the top score on long coding tasks by Meta’s own numbers, MiMo V2.6 Pro is the strongest open model, and DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash is the cheapest off-peak. GPT-6 Astra (ChatGPT 6): the technical guide to benchmarks, API, pricing and access

GPT-6 Astra is OpenAI's most capable model for long, autonomous work on a computer, but it is not the clear winner at everything. OpenAI launched it on September 3, 2026 and pitched it as the start of an “AGI era.” Independent testing tells a more measured story: a big leap in computer use and cybersecurity, and a much smaller step in general intelligence.

Claude Fable 5.1: the technical guide to benchmarks, API, pricing and how it compares

Claude Fable 5.1 is Anthropic's most capable generally available model for coding, knowledge work and long autonomous tasks. It launched on September 1, 2026, two days before the preview of OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra. It keeps Fable 5's base price but delivers more performance, and cheaper cache reads cut typical bills by about 25%.

Gemini 3.8 Flash: the technical guide to benchmarks, API, pricing and how it compares

Gemini 3.8 Flash is Google's newest model, and on coding and agentic tasks it reaches the level of large models at a fraction of their price. It launched on September 2, 2026 as the third Flash model in six weeks. It scores 73.7% on DeepSWE, practically the same as Claude Opus 5, while an input token costs about a seventh as much.

Meta Muse Spark 1.3: a technical deep dive into architecture, benchmarks, API and how it compares

Meta Muse Spark 1.3 is Meta's strongest model for agentic coding and giant-context work, but it is closed and trails Claude Opus 5 on general agentic tasks. Meta Superintelligence Labs released it on September 2, 2026, just four weeks after version 1.2. By Meta's own numbers, it leads DeepSWE v1.1 at 75.4% and reaches 98% on retrieval across a million-token context.
