Sklik vs. Google Ads: choose channels for the Czech market
For a business selling to Czech customers, Sklik and Google Ads can serve different useful roles. Choose from the audience and purchase journey, then test comparable campaign types. A lower click price or a familiar platform does not establish which channel produces worthwhile customers.

This comparison concerns advertising to the Czech market, including international companies entering Czechia. Sklik is Seznam.cz’s advertising system with a Czech-centered ecosystem. It should not be treated as a globally equivalent inventory alternative to Google Ads.
Start with one service area, offer and business outcome. A Prague repair company wants eligible appointment requests; an electronics store wants profitable orders. Both need Czech copy, a suitable landing page and a way to judge the quality of what advertising brings.
01Understand where the ads can appear
Sklik search-network documentation lists Seznam search and other Seznam services where relevant advertising can appear. Its display-network guide describes Czech internet properties and partner websites. Search and display serve different campaign purposes.
Google’s network documentation distinguishes search placements from display placements across Google and partner properties. The campaign type and settings determine the practical inventory. A Google search campaign should not be compared as if it bought the same exposure as a Sklik display campaign.
Define the geographic audience separately from the inventory. Czech-language sites can be visited from abroad. Sklik region settings explain that ads may reach users anywhere when no region restriction is selected, while the regional selector uses Czech regions and districts. That does not turn its inventory into a general international network.
For an exporter selling in several countries, assess each market and its actual demand. Google Ads may support the broader market plan, while Sklik is evaluated for the Czech audience and relevant Seznam inventory. Do not allocate foreign-market budgets by copying a Czech channel split.
Avoid assuming audience age, income or buying quality from the platform name. Research your own eligible customers and inspect the resulting leads or orders. Broad stereotypes can make a useful channel disappear from consideration before it has been tested.
02Compare the campaign job before the platform
Search advertising addresses a query at the moment someone is looking. Display can introduce an offer in a content environment or remind an eligible audience of a previous visit. Product advertising needs accurate catalog data and a viable shopping journey. Separate these jobs in the plan.
| Decision | Sklik for Czech campaigns | Google Ads for Czech campaigns |
|---|---|---|
| Search demand | Assess relevant queries and Seznam search placements | Assess relevant queries and Google search placements |
| Content exposure | Evaluate Czech-centered Seznam and partner inventory | Evaluate the selected Google and partner inventory |
| Geography | Review Czech regional restrictions and visitor location | Review target areas and presence or interest settings |
| Ecommerce | Check the current Seznam shopping setup and feed | Check the current Google shopping setup and feed |
| Channel economics | Measure valid outcomes and their contribution | Use the same business definitions for comparison |
Build an initial test around the same objective. For a local service, compare search campaigns with appropriate service-area restrictions and the same definition of a qualified inquiry. Compare display separately with a purpose and outcome suitable for that stage.
Keep brand queries distinguishable from non-brand acquisition. A channel receiving existing customers searching for your business may show attractive results without creating much additional demand. That is a different role from introducing the company to new buyers.
For ecommerce, inspect product availability, delivery promises and feed quality before expanding campaigns. An accurate ad cannot save a product page that shows the wrong variant or an unavailable delivery option. Give the feed and landing page a clear owner.
03Localize the offer and geographic settings
Use native Czech wording based on how customers describe the task. Translate the promise, conditions and form labels consistently. A Czech ad leading to an English-only checkout or unfamiliar shipping terms can introduce friction that is then blamed on the channel.
For a service business, define the area you can actually serve and how to handle inquiries outside it. Mention practical constraints where they affect the decision. National exposure is wasteful when the team cannot fulfill the work outside a few districts.
Google advanced location options distinguish people present in an area from people showing interest in it. Review that choice for the campaign objective. Interest in Prague can be useful for travel, while a business requiring local physical presence may need a different setting.

Language targeting and geographic targeting are different controls. Neither should be inferred solely from the ad’s text. Inspect the actual settings, exclusions and performance after launch, including the areas and queries associated with low-quality inquiries.
Make customer contact practical. The form should ask for enough information to qualify the request without imposing unrelated work. Use service and delivery details that make sense for Czech customers rather than importing assumptions from another market.
04Measure valid business outcomes in both systems
Define the primary conversion as close to real value as possible. A successful inquiry submission is useful, but a sales-qualified inquiry gives more information about acquisition quality. For a store, use confirmed order data and reconcile cancellations, refunds and duplicate records.
Sklik conversion-code documentation describes conversion values and consent-related parameters. Review its current implementation guidance for your setup. Do not copy an old script and assume it reflects the current measurement approach or your privacy configuration.
Apply consistent definitions across the comparison. Use the same treatment of tax, shipping, discounts, currency and order status in business reporting. Otherwise two apparently comparable returns can differ because the value fields contain different amounts.
Ad platforms can attribute the same order to their own touchpoints. Adding their reported conversions or revenue does not automatically produce a unique total. Keep an independent order or CRM record for business reconciliation and document the reporting windows.
Document the coverage of measurement. Consent choices, device changes and integration limits can affect observable conversions. A difference in reported performance can reflect attribution or data coverage as well as an actual difference in customer quality.
The marketing reporting guide provides related context for reconciling campaigns with business results. Include lead quality and closed outcomes when the sales cycle is longer than the advertising report window.
05Compare contribution and additional customers
A cheap click is useful only when it brings the right visitor. Evaluate cost per valid outcome and the economics after fulfillment. For an online store, gross sales alone ignore product costs, delivery subsidies, returns and campaign costs.
Use a consistent contribution definition agreed with finance. Compare the amount remaining after the variable costs relevant to the decision. Different product margins can make a channel with higher revenue less attractive than a channel selling fewer but more profitable orders.
Separate new customers from repeat customers where your data supports it. Returning buyers and remarketing can produce strong attributed results while answering a different question from new-customer acquisition. Keep those roles visible when deciding the budget.
Assess whether a second channel adds worthwhile demand or mainly claims activity already covered elsewhere. A structured experiment may help where feasible. At minimum, inspect brand traffic, customer overlap and unique business records instead of equating every attributed conversion with incremental sales.
Include management effort in the choice. Another platform means creative adaptation, quality checks, reporting and maintenance. A small budget divided into many sparse campaigns can become harder to learn from than a focused test.
Set an affordable test budget and review conditions before launch. The amount and duration should reflect your sales cycle, traffic and decision risk. There is no universal split or minimum spend that proves one system better for every Czech business.
06Import carefully and build a controlled test
Sklik’s current Google Ads import guide lists supported transfers and limits. It includes conversion of supported Performance Max imports into Sklik Smart campaigns, while videos and Google Merchant Center product data do not transfer through that mapping.
An import saves setup work, but it does not prove equivalence. Inspect bidding, budgets, geographic settings, formats, destination URLs and tracking. Confirm what was transformed, omitted or assigned a default before enabling the campaigns.

Run a narrow test with a clear offer and sufficient observation time. Record material changes to landing pages, pricing and availability. Avoid changing every control simultaneously, since you then have little basis for explaining the outcome.
Review search terms, placements and actual customer quality regularly. Remove irrelevant exposure based on evidence and fix measurement defects promptly. A campaign should not continue spending simply because an import completed successfully.
Expand the channel that delivers worthwhile outcomes within the chosen role, and use the other where it adds value. For B2B campaigns, the lead-generation guide connects advertising with a longer qualification and sales process.
07Questions about advertising to Czech customers
Is Sklik an alternative to Google Ads worldwide?
Evaluate it as a Czech-centered advertising ecosystem. Its sites can have visitors abroad, but that does not make its inventory globally equivalent to Google’s network. This comparison is about reaching Czech customers.
Is Sklik always cheaper?
There is no universal price advantage that establishes better business results. Compare cost per valid outcome and contribution for your offer. Cheap irrelevant traffic can cost more than a higher-priced click that leads to a suitable customer.
Should we start on both platforms?
Only if you can fund, manage and measure a useful test on each. A focused initial campaign may be easier to learn from when the budget is limited. Add a channel with a clear role and comparison plan.
Can we simply import our Google campaigns?
Use the supported import, then review every important setting and omitted asset. Formats and campaign behavior are not identical. Validate bidding, region settings, URLs, feeds and measurement before enabling spend.
Why do platform reports disagree with store revenue?
Different attribution windows, customer paths, consent coverage and value definitions can produce discrepancies. Several systems may credit the same order. Reconcile against unique order records using a consistent financial definition.
Which platform is better for a Czech local service?
Test eligible demand in the actual service area. Use native Czech copy and a qualified-inquiry outcome. Review geographic settings and lead quality before allocating more budget, rather than selecting from audience stereotypes.
What decides the final budget split?
The channel role, incremental eligible customers, contribution and management effort. Keep brand, acquisition and remarketing separate in the review. Increase spending where the evidence supports a worthwhile business outcome.
