Proton VPN Price 2026: What Plus and Unlimited Cost, With VAT and After Renewal

A two-year Proton VPN Plus plan costs €71.76 through the partner offer, or €2.99 a month, and VAT is already included. The regular pricing page charges €83.76 for the same two years. After 24 months the plan renews at €83.88 a year, which works out to €6.99 a month. On October 19, 2026, we went through the pricing page, the partner page and both checkouts in a regular browser from a Czech IP address, along with Proton’s terms, payment options and student deals. Then we worked out what you pay for the first term, after renewal and over four years.

Cover of the Proton VPN price 2026 article: Plus at €2.99 a month with VAT on a two-year plan, €83.88 a year after renewal, 10 devices at once

Proton VPN sells three plans: Proton Free, which costs nothing, the paid VPN Plus, and the Proton Unlimited bundle, which adds premium email, storage and a password manager on top of the VPN. Paid plans come in two-year, one-year and monthly terms. Family plans and the business VPN are sold separately (see Proton’s pricing), so we leave them out here.

We have not tested the apps; this article is only about price. For privacy, speed and streaming, see our Proton VPN review. Our Proton VPN links are affiliate links: if you buy through them, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and here you actually pay less than the list price. Prices are in euros with VAT included, as Proton shows them. Koruna amounts use the Czech National Bank rate of CZK 24.340 per euro from October 19, 2026 (CNB); your bank may use a different rate.

02How much Proton VPN Plus costs for 2 years, 1 year and 1 month

Proton sells Plus in three terms, and the partner page is cheaper for both the two-year and the one-year plan. The monthly plan costs the same everywhere. Two-year and one-year plans are paid upfront in full (pricing, partner offer).

  • MonthlyPartner offer: 9.99List price: 9.99
  • After renewalPartner offer: 6.99List price: 6.99

Plan price divided by the number of months. After renewal you pay €83.88 a year either way.

The one-year plan only makes sense if you are not sure you will want Proton for a second year. It costs more per month than the two-year plan and renews at the same €83.88. The monthly plan at €9.99 is fine for a single trip or a test run, but over two years it would cost you €239.76, more than three times the two-year partner price.

What the 70% discount means

The partner page promises 70% off, the pricing page 65%. Proton calculates both against the €9.99 monthly plan: two-year Plus at €2.99 a month is 70% cheaper, at €3.49 it is 65% cheaper. The €168 saving shown on the partner page is the difference between 24 monthly payments of €9.99 and €71.76. The discount only covers the first 24 months, though. After that, Plus renews at €83.88 a year, or €6.99 a month, which is just 30% below the monthly plan.

03List price or partner offer: where Proton VPN is cheaper

On the public pricing page, two-year Plus costs €83.76. On the partner page our button links to, we saw the same plan for €71.76, which is €12 (CZK 292) less. On the one-year plan the gap is €6: €47.88 versus €53.88. Either way you get the same VPN Plus for 10 devices with the same guarantee.

Proton VPN Plus list price and partner offer with VAT: 2 years €83.76 and €71.76, 1 year €53.88 and €47.88, monthly €9.99 for both, renewal €83.88 a year for both
List price and partner offer differ only in the first term.

The lower price comes from a coupon the checkout applies automatically, so there is nothing to type in. On the partner page it is called VPNINTROPRICE2025, on the pricing page it has a different name, and according to the checkout data each user can redeem it only once. Renewal is identical in both cases: €83.88 for 12 months.

04What you pay after renewal and over 4 years

After the first term, the subscription renews automatically for the period shown at checkout, which for two-year and one-year Plus is 12 months at €83.88; monthly Plus renews month to month. The checkout spells it out: the special price applies to the first 24 months, then the plan renews automatically at €83.88, and renewal prices may change under the terms of service. The terms add that if the renewal price has changed, you pay the price in effect on the renewal date (terms of service). At €83.88 a year, renewal costs more than twice the intro price of €35.88 a year.

What happens to a Proton VPN Plus subscription: day one €71.76, full refund within 30 days, 24 months of VPN on 10 devices, then renewal at €83.88 a year, auto-renewal can be canceled any time
From purchase to the first renewal.

That is why it pays to look beyond the first term. Over four years, or 48 months, you pay:

Our calculation from Proton VPN’s pricing page and partner offer as of October 19, 2026. Both the one-year and two-year Plus plans renew at €83.88 a year; the monthly plan stays at €9.99.

Even with the pricier renewals, the two-year plan comes out cheapest: through the partner offer it averages about €4.99 a month over four years, versus €6.24 with the one-year plan and €9.99 month by month. Before each renewal, check what Proton is offering you and compare it with other providers.

05Proton VPN Plus vs Unlimited: what the extra money buys

The VPN is the same on both plans. Plus and Unlimited both get the highest speed, servers in more than 140 countries, streaming, P2P and ad and malware blocking, and both cover 10 devices at once (pricing). Unlimited adds the premium versions of Proton’s other services.

Proton VPN plans with VAT: Free at no cost for 1 device, Plus for 10 devices at €2.99 a month via the partner offer, Unlimited with Mail, Drive and Pass at €7.99 a month
Proton VPN’s three plans and their monthly price on a two-year plan.

Plus is enough for anyone who only wants a VPN. The account also comes with the free versions of Proton Mail, Drive and Pass and limited access to Calendar (pricing). Unlimited combines VPN Plus, Mail Plus, Drive Plus and Pass Plus. It costs €191.76 for two years, €120 more than partner-priced Plus, and renews at €119.88 a year, €36 more. It pays off if you would otherwise pay separately for encrypted email or storage: Mail Plus alone is listed at €47.88 a year on Proton’s pricing page.

The Free plan really is free, with no card required, but it covers one device, runs at medium speed and offers ten countries without letting you pick the server. What it can do and when it is enough is covered in our Proton VPN Free article.

06Switching plans and longer subscriptions

You can change your plan or term at any time. Move from monthly Plus to a one-year plan, or from Plus to Unlimited, and Proton credits the unused part of your current subscription toward the new one (pricing, terms of service). So you can start with Plus and move to Unlimited later without losing the months you have paid for.

Downgrading before the end of your term works in a similar way: the unused part comes back as account credit. That credit has to be used within 24 months or it expires (terms of service). If you downgrade from Unlimited to Plus, your account has to fit the smaller plan, which may mean deactivating some email addresses or freeing up storage.

07VAT and paying in euros

Proton shows prices with tax included. At the Czech checkout, the partner offer read “Total for 24 months 71.76 €”, with 21% VAT of €12.45 already inside that total; at list price, €83.76 included €14.54 of VAT. Nothing is added on top, so the price on the site is what you pay. Proton’s terms allow for prices to be shown with or without tax depending on where you buy (terms of service); from a Czech IP address on October 19 we saw them with tax included.

You pay in euros. Proton accepts euros, Swiss francs and US dollars, and offers local currencies only in a handful of countries, which do not include Czechia or Slovakia (payment methods). If your card is in koruna, your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign currency fee, so the koruna prices in this article are approximate. At checkout, pick the billing country where you pay tax, as Proton explicitly asks (payment methods). We did not see the Slovak checkout; since Proton prices include VAT, we expect the same final price there, with Slovakia’s 23% VAT in the breakdown.

08How you can pay for Proton VPN

  • Card, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay: we saw all four at the Czech checkout on October 19. Apple Pay works in Safari on a Mac and in any browser on iPhone and iPad (payment methods).
  • Bitcoin: not offered at sign-up. Create a free account first, then buy a paid plan from your account settings (payment methods).
  • Cash and bank transfer: in euros, Swiss francs or US dollars, credited to your account. Note that Proton does not refund payments made in cash or by bank transfer (terms of service).

In the iPhone app, App Store pricing applies. On October 19, the Czech App Store listed two VPN Plus in-app purchases, at CZK 149.99 and CZK 1,260, and Proton Unlimited at CZK 240 a month and CZK 1,980, but it does not say how long the VPN Plus items or the CZK 1,980 Unlimited item last (App Store). Under Proton’s terms, if you subscribed through a third party, that party’s refund policy applies (terms of service), so with the App Store or Google Play, expect Apple or Google to have a say in any refund.

09Proton VPN coupon codes, discounts and the student deal

There is no universal Proton VPN discount code. The lower price comes from a coupon that the checkout applies automatically, depending on the page you arrive from: 65% off from the pricing page, 70% off from the partner page. We found no official discount for existing customers, for example at renewal, on Proton’s website.

  • Students: VPN Plus for 12 months at €35.88, or €2.99 a month, and Unlimited for 12 months at €59.88. Student Beans verifies your status, and anyone in full-time education qualifies, including high school students and apprentices. After the first year, the plan renews at the regular price (Proton).
  • Referrals: inviting someone can earn you account credit or extra features, but under the terms it depends on the current campaign and you are not entitled to a reward (terms of service).
  • Free trial: we found none for consumer paid plans; the terms mention a free trial only for business plans (terms of service). What you get instead is the Free plan and the 30-day guarantee.

10Money-back guarantee and canceling auto-renewal

Within 30 days of your first purchase, you can cancel and get the full amount back. Both the cancellation and the refund request have to happen within those 30 days, and each user can ask for a refund only once. This does not apply to cash or bank transfer payments, and if you subscribed through a third party, its own refund policy applies. After 30 days, Proton no longer has to refund you (terms of service).

If you do not want the plan to renew, you have to cancel it in your account before the renewal date (terms of service). Step-by-step instructions for the web, Android and iPhone are in our guide on how to cancel Proton VPN and get a refund.

11Is Proton VPN expensive? How it compares

Proton VPN Plus renews at €83.88 a year with VAT. For comparison, NordVPN Basic renews at €139.08 a year before VAT according to our NordVPN price article from October 18, 2026; with 21% Czech VAT that is roughly double. On its pricing page, Proton highlights its Swiss base, open-source apps and no-logs policy. How it holds up in independent tests is covered in our Proton VPN review.

We compare prices and features in detail in Proton VPN vs Surfshark, Proton VPN vs ExpressVPN, Proton VPN vs Mullvad and NordVPN vs Proton VPN. For an overview of 14 services, see our best VPN for 2026 comparison.

12How to get Proton VPN as cheaply as possible

  1. Decide how long you need it. For one trip, a single month at €9.99 is enough; for more than a year, buy the two-year plan. The one-year plan only makes sense if you are unsure about a second year.
  2. Choose Plus unless you need premium email and storage. You can move up to Unlimited at any time and the unused part of Plus is credited.
  3. Buy through the partner offer, not at list price. You save €12 (CZK 292) over two years, and renewal is the same.
  4. Students should verify first through Student Beans; a year of Plus then costs €35.88.
  5. At checkout, check the billing country and the total for the whole term.
  6. Compare before your plan ends. Plus renews at €83.88 a year. If you do not want it to renew, cancel auto-renewal in your account in good time.
