Proton VPN Black Friday 2026: Who Should Wait for 75% Off?
If VPN Plus already meets your needs and you can wait until October 26, there is little reason to rush into a two-year subscription today. Proton has announced 75% off the 24-month plan from October 26 to November 30, while its public offer still shows 70% on October 23. The future cash price is not yet confirmed. Our decision guide explains when waiting makes sense, when Free may be enough, and how to compare Plus with Unlimited without letting a discount dictate the purchase.

We checked Proton’s public deals page, plan documentation and subscription terms on October 23, 2026. Future campaign dates and discounts come from the affiliate announcement supplied to us. The dollar figures below are a public-page reference, not a fresh regional checkout check. This article assesses the buying decision; it does not report new app tests.
Listify may receive a commission when you buy through our Proton links, at no additional cost to you.
01Should you wait, buy now or stay on Free?
Start with what you need before the sale begins. A better percentage is worth waiting for when waiting costs you nothing.
| Your situation | Practical next step | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your existing VPN still works | Wait until October 26 | You can compare the announced offer without a gap in service. |
| You need a paid feature immediately | Compare today’s available plans | A future saving has less value if it prevents you doing something you need now. |
| You only need basic use on one device | Try Free first | An upgrade needs to solve a limitation you actually encounter. |
| You also need paid email or storage | Compare Unlimited separately | Its broader bundle and shorter promotional term change the calculation. |
| You already pay for a Proton service | Check the offer in your account | Confirm eligibility and the effect on your existing subscription before paying. |
02What Proton has announced for Black Friday
The partner announcement sets out 75% off VPN Plus for 24 months, with a campaign running October 26 to November 30, 2026. It also lists 50% off Unlimited for 12 months. The exact future amounts in dollars, euros and pounds were not supplied.
The VPN Plus discount is measured against the standard monthly price. Moving from a 70% headline to 75% is a five-percentage-point increase in the advertised discount, not an additional 75% reduction on today’s offer. The actual difference in your payment remains to be confirmed.
03Keep today’s price separate from the future deal
On October 23, Proton’s public deals page showed VPN Plus at $2.99 per month under the existing 70% offer. That means paying $71.76 upfront, rather than receiving a small bill each month.
| Offer | Initial term | Payment upfront | Displayed renewal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Existing 70% offer, USD reference | 24 months | $71.76 | $83.88 every 12 months |
| Announced 75% Black Friday offer | 24 months | Not yet confirmed | Not yet confirmed for this offer |

04Free can be the right decision even during a sale
Proton’s plan documentation gives Free unlimited data, one simultaneous connection and a limited choice of locations assigned by the service. Those limits matter more than the absence of a price tag.
Use it for the tasks you already have. If you do not encounter a restriction that matters, keep your money. If a particular location or paid feature becomes essential, you have a concrete reason to compare Plus. Our Proton VPN Free guide explains the practical limits.
05Plus makes sense when you can name the upgrade
VPN Plus supports ten simultaneous connections and adds the paid server network, streaming and P2P support, NetShield and Secure Core. These are documented plan features, not evidence that every household needs them.
A useful test is to finish this sentence: “I need Plus because…” Covering your phone and laptop together is a specific answer. Wanting a feature you will never switch on is weaker justification. Decide what the subscription needs to do, then judge the October offer against that requirement.
06Unlimited needs a separate budget
Unlimited includes VPN Plus alongside premium Mail, Drive, Pass and Calendar features. It is useful to compare if you intend to move several services to Proton. Buying it just for the VPN adds services you may never use.
The announced discounts also cover different periods: 24 months for VPN Plus, 12 months for Unlimited. Compare both over the same ownership period, including any renewal needed to reach it. A smaller first payment for a shorter term does not automatically mean a lower long-term cost.
Existing customers should check their account options first. Proton says multiple separate Plus subscriptions cannot coexist on the same account. If you already have Mail Plus, for example, check the appropriate upgrade path instead of assuming that buying VPN Plus creates a second independent subscription.
07Include unused time in your calculation
A two-year average assumes two years of usefulness. If you only need a VPN for a trip, compare the full cost of a shorter subscription. Paying less per advertised month can still mean spending more overall.
The same applies when replacing another VPN. Count any overlap between the old subscription and the new one. Paying for two services at once may be worthwhile for testing or a specific feature, but it is still part of your budget.
If you have not chosen a provider, start with our NordVPN versus Proton VPN comparison or Proton VPN versus Surfshark comparison. A sale date should help time a suitable purchase, rather than choose the product for you.
08Make the renewal decision before the first payment
Record the initial charge, the subscription end date and the renewal amount shown for your order. Proton’s terms allow renewal prices to change, so the promotional rate is not a permanent price promise.
The 30-day guarantee has conditions: cancellation and the refund request must both occur within 30 days of the initial purchase. It is available once per user, excludes cash and bank transfers, and third-party purchases follow the seller’s policy.
Canceling VPN Plus renewal leaves paid access running until the current term ends. Requesting a refund is a separate step. For buyers who can wait, the next sensible checkpoint is October 26: confirm the new price, assess the complete subscription and buy only if the plan fits.
09Frequently asked questions
Should I wait until October 26 to buy Proton VPN?
If you want VPN Plus and have no immediate need to subscribe, waiting lets you assess the announced 75% offer. If you need paid features now, compare the available plans on their full cost.
Has the 75% Black Friday deal already started?
No. As of October 23, Proton’s public offer still showed 70%. The partner announcement schedules the 75% promotion for October 26 to November 30, 2026.
Can I calculate the future price from the discount?
A percentage alone does not confirm the final payment. Wait for the live offer to establish the amount, currency, tax treatment and renewal terms.
Does Unlimited give me more simultaneous VPN connections?
No. VPN Plus and Unlimited both support ten simultaneous VPN connections. Unlimited adds premium services beyond the VPN; it is not a higher device-limit plan.
Will buying now automatically give me the later discount?
The supplied announcement does not promise an automatic price adjustment. Do not assume a current purchase will be repriced when the campaign starts; check with Proton if this affects your decision.
