CyberGhost vs NordVPN 2026: Price, Renewal, Speed and Which to Choose

CyberGhost is the cheaper VPN: €2.19 a month before tax against €3.49 for NordVPN’s cheapest plan. After renewal the gap widens to €56.94 versus €139.08 a year. For the extra money NordVPN gives you more: 10 devices instead of 7, six independent no-logs assessments, tools that work around censorship and a native Apple TV app. We compared prices, servers, speed, streaming and audits, all as of October 7, 2026.

Cover of the CyberGhost vs NordVPN 2026 comparison: €2.19 versus €3.49 a month before tax, 7 versus 10 devices, a 45-day versus 30-day money-back guarantee

CyberGhost and NordVPN are two of the best-known VPNs. Bucharest-based CyberGhost competes on price and simple apps; NordVPN, which operates under Panamanian jurisdiction, on features and a long record of audits. Which one is worth more to you depends mostly on how many devices you need and whether you will use a VPN in countries that censor the internet.

We did not test either service ourselves. This comparison is built on their pricing pages, help centers, NordVPN’s public server list and independent tests by TechRadar, Tom’s Guide, Security.org and Comparitech. We link sources in the text, and all of them are listed at the end. Links to both VPNs are affiliate links: if you buy through them, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. 02Price and what you pay after renewal

Both services list prices in euros before tax. CyberGhost notes that “Taxes may apply based on your jurisdiction,” and NordVPN that “VAT may apply” (CyberGhost, NordVPN). In the EU, expect your local VAT on top, for example 21% in the Czech Republic or 23% in Slovakia. The table shows the cheapest multi-year plan of each service plus NordVPN’s higher tiers.

Plan price divided by the months it covers. Both services renew yearly; we divided the yearly price by twelve.

The gap grows every year. Over roughly four years (the first term plus two yearly renewals) you pay about €170.82 with CyberGhost and €372.39 with NordVPN Basic. You can switch off auto-renewal in your account with either service (NordVPN).

NordVPN Complete adds antivirus, an ad and tracker blocker, a password manager, 1 TB of cloud storage and monitoring of your phone number and card for leaks. Ultra adds Incogni, which asks data brokers to delete your personal details. CyberGhost includes its ID Guard breach alerts free with multi-year plans and sells antivirus separately, for Windows only.

Until October 13, 2026, CyberGhost is also running its MVP Season sale with 29 months for €1.96 a month. We break it down in CyberGhost deal 2026.

Guarantee, free trial and payment

CyberGhost refunds within 45 days on plans of 6 months or longer and within 14 days on the monthly plan (help center). NordVPN gives you 30 days, on your first purchase only; renewals are not covered (help center). If you buy through the App Store, Apple handles refunds for both services.

CyberGhost offers 24 hours free on a computer without a card, 3 days on Android and 7 days on iPhone (CyberGhost). NordVPN’s 7-day trial is limited to 15 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Germany; separately, first-time Android users get a 3-day trial through Google Play (help center).

Both take cards and PayPal. NordVPN’s help center also lists cryptocurrency, depending on the country (help center); CyberGhost does not take crypto anywhere (help center).

03Server network

Countries with servers: physical and virtual
  • CyberGhostPhysical servers: 44Virtual locations only: 56
  • NordVPNPhysical servers: 55Virtual locations only: 95

CyberGhost per its server list and help center as of October 1, 2026 (CyberGhost); NordVPN per its public server list as of October 7, 2026 (NordVPN API).

NordVPN covers more countries, 150 against CyberGhost’s 100. In both cases many of them are virtual locations: you get an IP address from that country, but the server sits somewhere else. NordVPN’s public server list marks 95 of its 150 countries as virtual, leaving physical servers in 55 (NordVPN API); CyberGhost lists 56 virtual countries out of 100, so 44 physical (help center). CyberGhost runs more servers in total, 9,696 against 7,140 (CyberGhost, NordVPN API).

Dedicated IP addresses are available from both for an extra fee. NordVPN offers them in 31 locations (help center), CyberGhost in 12 countries (CyberGhost).

Based on CyberGhost’s website and help center as of October 1, 2026 and NordVPN’s help center as of October 7, 2026. Links to each help article are in the Sources section.

NordVPN has more tools for power users. Its NordWhisper protocol helps on networks that block VPNs and in censored countries (help center). It planned to shut down Meshnet, which links your devices into a private network, in 2025, then reversed the decision after users pushed back (Tom’s Guide). The feature is still documented in its help center (help center).

CyberGhost has fewer extras. Its strength is streaming, with servers optimized for specific services (CyberGhost).

05Speed

WireGuard speeds in TechRadar’s tests, Mbps
  • CyberGhost (May 2026)Nearest server: 1,480US to UK: 1,058
  • NordVPN (March 2026)Nearest server: 1,249US to UK: 688

TechRadar’s fastest VPN table, 10 Gbps line (TechRadar). The month in parentheses is when each test was run.

Both VPNs are among the fastest you can buy. The only side-by-side comparison using the same method is TechRadar’s table, where CyberGhost leads with 1,480 Mbps on the nearest server against NordVPN’s 1,249 Mbps, though the tests were run in different months (TechRadar). TechRadar’s newer NordVPN review, updated in October 2026, reports 1,427 Mbps (TechRadar), while its older CyberGhost review from February 2026 recorded 674 Mbps (TechRadar).

Results vary more between test days and locations than between the two services, so speed should not be what decides it. Price, device limits and features matter more.

06Streaming and China

Both handle streaming well. TechRadar gave CyberGhost full marks for unblocking, and in a May 2026 test Tom’s Guide unblocked every Netflix region it tried on the first attempt (TechRadar, Tom’s Guide). In TechRadar’s review updated in October 2026, only YouTube US and Prime Video Australia stayed blocked for NordVPN (TechRadar).

The big difference is censorship. TechRadar found that NordVPN works in China, although the company does not guarantee it (TechRadar, Security.org). Comparitech reported in April 2025 that CyberGhost does not work there, and CyberGhost lists no obfuscation feature (Comparitech). If you travel to China, NordVPN is the better pick of the two.

07Privacy, audits and incidents

NordVPN operates under Panamanian jurisdiction, and its parent company Nord Security is based in the Netherlands (help center). CyberGhost is based in Bucharest and has belonged since 2017 to Kape Technologies, which also owns ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access (Kape).

NordVPN has had its no-logs policy independently assessed six times since 2018, with Deloitte carrying out the two most recent ones (Nord Security, Tom’s Guide). Cure53 also tested its apps and servers; in 2025 it found five high-severity issues and no critical ones, all of which were fixed (TechRadar). CyberGhost has three Deloitte assessments, from 2022, 2024 and 2025 (CyberGhost). Each assessment checks the setup at a point in time, not permanently.

Neither has a spotless record. In 2018 an attacker accessed one NordVPN server rented in Finland, and the company only disclosed it in October 2019 (TechCrunch). In January 2026 a hacker claimed on a forum to have NordVPN data; the company denied it, saying the material came from a test environment with dummy data (SecurityWeek). CyberGhost fixed a serious flaw in its Windows app in 2023 (NVD).

Timeline of audits and incidents: NordVPN no-logs assessments 2018, 2020 and 2022 to 2025, a Finnish server breach in 2018 disclosed in 2019, Cure53 audit 2025, a denied hacker claim in 2026; CyberGhost acquired by Kape 2017, Deloitte 2022, 2024, 2025, a Windows flaw fixed in 2023
Audits and incidents for both services over time.

11Conclusion

For most people who want a VPN for streaming and public Wi-Fi, CyberGhost is the better buy: it costs well over a third less up front and less than half as much after renewal, and offers a longer guarantee. NordVPN is worth the extra money if you need more devices, travel to censored countries or want the VPN with the longer record of independent assessments.
